Hi guys, I'm going crazy trying to find inspection hole and timing mark on the a 2003 jetta gls 1.8t with triptronic transmission. Does the mark like most a sharp triangle on the housing and a line on the flywheel? If so I sure can't find it. If you can send pics of actual bellhousing and flywheel it would be appreciated.. thanks Jack

ps. I look at the 2002 jetta 1.8t post and it don't seem to match.

If you can not find the mark at the tranny end, just make sure that the mark on the crankshaft pulley lines-up with the mark on the bottom timing belt cover.

Rotate the engine until the TDC mark on the camshaft sprocket lines-up with the mark on the valve cover. Then check if the TDC mark on the crank pulley lines-up with the mark on the cover.

As mentioned in the other thread (that you had linked)... the mark at the tranny end can be difficult to spot.

Thanks for talking to me FKH161. I don't have a mark on my cover. Anyway the only mark I find on my flywheel is a rectangular raised bumb is that suppose to be the mark? I still can't find the timing hole plug, I can see the flywheel from several postions on the bell housing. I thought I was a fair mechanic but this dang thing as me really confused.

All pulleys & lower timing belt covers have alignment marks.

Align the Camshaft sprocket mark with the valve cover mark and then start looking for the tranny hole. I don't have time till after work to post some pictures.

Have a look at my attachment... look for a notch in the pulley that will align with the notch in the cover (circled in red)

The big black crank pulley (harmonic balancer) has a notch, not the crank sprocket.
