Hi every1,

I have a 2000 E46 330i 285,000 km's and I would like to find out if the following symptoms indicate a worn clutch?

1. When the car is at idle and I depress the clutch there is a rumbling noise that stays constant till I release the clutch. Sounds like a grinding noise.

2. I engage 1st gear and release the clutch there is a slipping vibration that is felt from the engine which then goes through the drive shaft to the rear wheels. This does not usually happen when I go to 2nd or higher gears. However, when I gear down from 3rd to 2nd / 2nd to 1st then I get the same vibration effect.

3. This is intermittent and does not happen all the time, although very frequently. It almost feels as if the car tries to hop away in first gear.

If I need to replace the clutch, is it absolutely necessary to replace the flywheel?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
