I've heard it is possible to program the power door locks so that they automatically unlock when the key is removed from the ignition. Does anyone know how to do this on a 2006 Jetta 2.5 (manual trans, no multifunction display)?
I finally got hold of a VAG-COM (now called VCDS) and reprogrammed my door locks to unlock when the key is removed from the ignition. Working with the long coding helper in the Central Convenience Controller, Byte 0 - Bit 1 reads "Central Locking without Safe Function," and was not checked. Does anyone know what "Safe Function" for the MkV electric door locks is?
I found the answer after posting the question on the VWVortex MkV forum (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5078764-Door-Lock-quot-Safe-Function-quot). Safe Function makes the inside door handles inoperable if the doors are locked with the remote. This is a security feature that makes the cars harder to steal. Even if a thief breaks a window, they cannot open the doors from the inside or outside. The default setting for this function is "OFF," so it must be set by the dealership or with a VAG-COM.
