My heater is only blowing cold air through the vents. Heater core seems to be flowing fine, coolant was just changed. Took it to a local VW mechanic but nothing shows up on his computer readout. There was a coolant sensor changed last year when the check engine light came on. Don't know if that would be something or not. Lights not on anymore though. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated, especially living in Wyoming need that heat desperately.

Is it manual control or 'climatronic'?

Also, how is the engine temp? It should be near the middle of the gauge.

It is a climatronic control.

Engine temp maintains 195 with no deviation.

I'm experiencing the same problem. recently I took my car out of storage (3-years) due to overseas military duty. THe storage facility is the type that store the vehicle inside, rotates cars monthly, inspects and starts your vehicle. Engine warms up normally and the temp needle stays in the middle of the gage. Climatronic system also. Any clues?

Take a look at this thread:

http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227444

First try to set the unit to High, push the red temp button until it stops showing #s on the display and says High.

If you still do not get any heat then it may be related to the coolant change and you may have an air bubble in the heater core that is causing little or no coolant flow through the heater core...

In the case of 'Bassplayer' I would guess that it is the servo mentioned in the thread noted above. Even if they started the car they probably didn't wait long enough for it to warm up, the servo keeps the flap closed until the car warms up so the system doesn't blow ice cold air until the engine warms. Most likely after 3 years of not being activated it is just stuck. I will check my Bentley manual tonight to see if I can point you to where to find the problem area. You might just have to move it a few times by hand to loosen it up and with any luck it may return to normal function.
